THINK.DRAW.WRITE.SHARE - We start the year with blank paper... no lines, no boxes... just space to be filled by their imagination and prior knowledge. In encouraging students to express themselves on paper through a picture with a caption, which usually involves squiggles, letters, words and/or numbers, they learn not to be afraid of a blank page. They learn that writing is something that simply begins with a thought...an idea, that in its simplest form, writing is sharing a message. As students gain confidence and challenge themselves with more complex "writing", we begin to work on form and conventions, little by little. It's an amazing process!
